Ten years is a long fucking time to dip out on a community and then try to come back, but I went on an absolute rant in the comment section of Pajiba just before the New Year (and in it lamented the loss of LiveJournal) and one nice response said that Dreamwidth was still alive and kicking and so why not?

So maybe we can start by talking about why I left? For a few years I worked for a video production and marketing company, and a large part of my job was managing social media for the company and multiple clients. When you go from blogging because you love it to blogging for a living - and in someone else's voice - the idea of doing more of it at the end of the workday is just exhausting. I lost that little spark that made me love to write, and so I stopped.

So, ten years, and a lot of changes. I went from video production to a downtown management organization. I started there in transportation demand management (trying to get people out of their cars when they come to the downtown) then after a few years was promoted to special projects. I did some cool stuff, but COVID really put a halt to a lot of my ideas, unfortunately. Now I'm on the marketing and events team for the same organization, and loving it. Every day is different, I love my coworkers, and we put on beloved events. The general public can still be awful sometimes (my disdain from my coffee shop days keeps on keeping on) but for the most part people are lovely and appreciate what we do. So that's the job front.

Palmer and I have two kids now. A boy who is about to turn 7 and a girl who is 3. I'm trying to decide how much I want to write about them on the Internet, so vagueness for right now. But they're great. Smart and sweet and funny and I'm just praying I don't fuck them up too badly.

The pets we had the last time I posted have all died. Coco in 2021, Loki in 2022. Athena died late in 2024, and Goblin died in November. It has been a hard couple of years in that respect. We are down to one pet now, a sweet 3 year old cat named Pixie. She is affectionate, but not a cuddler, and is great with the kids. She's also a cord chewer and total mischief, so we have our hands full.

I think that's probably enough of a life update for now. I'll try to write a more regular entry soon. See if I can't get back into the practice.
