Tales From the Bus!
Nov. 24th, 2009 07:36 pmSometimes I really hate taking the bus. Not all the time- most of the time I'm glad I take the bus. I save money on gas (and a car), it helps keep my carbon footprint ridiculously low (below the worldwide average, what what!) and I get some quality reading in. But today... oh, today.
First incident was just obnoxious. I sat near the back of the bus, at a window seat. A guy wearing a backpack sits down next me, hitting me with the backpack that's still on. Doesn't apologize, just takes the backpack off (hitting me again) and talks to his friends on the bus. Well, whatever. I continue reading my book and ignore their conversation. After a few minutes, he switches to a newly empty seat, and another guy (also wearing a backpack) sits down next to me. At first this was fine, but at one point he shifted so that he and the backpack were both on me. I shifted, moving away from him, and he apologized. I told him it was fine, and went back to my book. But all of a sudden the guy next to me and the guy who HAD been next to me are talking about me. Loudly. Saying shit about "white girl" and "but at least she's got an ass" and you get the picture. Fucking lovely. I couldn't even put my headphones in cause I was so squished against the wall. So I had to listen to that until the bus got to MC. Assholes.
The next incident was just freaky. My bus pulls up to the station and I step on. I see a guy passed out in the front row, so I tell the bus driver. He walks back and tries to wake the guy up. Nothing. Taps him. Nothing. Shakes him, saying "Sir! Silver Spring Station!" Nothing. The guy was breathing, but completely unresponsive. The Metro security guy came on the bus and tried again to wake the guy up, again nothing. So, off we went! Apparently they were going to have an ambulance or security or something waiting at Takoma Park station for the guy, but still- freaky! I hope the guy is ok, but seriously, what the fuck?
So yes! That was my adventurous day on DC public transportation. Thank god for a long weekend!
